Introduction
Hello, I'd like to introduce to what could be
the most useful guide to getting just about any game to function correctly on
your system. Every game was extensively tested on ATI and Nvidia graphics cards, so if
you don't own either some type of Radeon or Geforce, I am not guaranteeing my
settings are gonna work for you. If you are an ATI or Nvidia card user, I can
guarantee you that about 95% of my settings will work, due to that fact that
its been tested on both AMD and Intel Processors, Radeon and Geforce Cards,
different types of RAM, multiple motherboard manufacturers such as ASUS, Soyo,
and Abit, and several different types of audio cards and integrations. The
graphics card is the biggy though, along with the drivers. I highly suggest
updating almost everything to the latest, well...everything! Such as if you
have a VIA Chipset, upgrade to the latest chipset drivers.
I have several methods of getting a game working. Most of the time, use my
configuration, and you can't go wrong. Just follow along the chart, and apply
those settings to your emulator configuration. I have stated working emulators,
video plugins, audio plugins, the RSP used, and any Known Issues with my
configuration. Anyway, I hope this guide works for you as well as it works for
me. I have spent much wasted time on this, so I hope you like it. I have kept
it simple, and easy to understand for both simple and more complex minds.
Enjoy!! 8^)

*Tip: Glide64 uses glide wrappers in order to play on a non-3DFX
Voodoo graphics card. The most commonly used wrapper is “Hacktarux’s wrapper”,
which is included with the latest version of Glide64. “Zeckensack’s wrapper” is
also a nice wrapper to use. This wrapper will correct some issues with games
such as Resident Evil 2. This wrapper can be found here: Download
Zeckensack’s Glide Wrapper. Only one
wrapper can be installed at a time.
Plugin Information
Video Information:
Always use the video
plugin I suggest, unless it doesn't work for you. “Rice’s VIdeo Plugin <--(switch
with)--> Jabo’s Direct 3D8” will usually do the
trick. For any game that uses Mupen64, the plugin Glide64 will give you the best results. This combo allows Glide64 to show effects it
won’t show in other emulators. Although 1964 will run Rice's Video Plugin, remember one thing: It's unstable for us for us Radeon
users. More or less, try not to enable heavy frame skipping too often, hit
Alt+Enter repeatedly or too fast, or Minimize/Maximize too fast. Direct64 will usually give off
the nicest graphics, but it’s still early in development. This saying, it’s not
very compatible, but the games it does play it emulates almost perfectly. glN64 0.4.1 does not work with
Project64.
Sound Information:
Azimer's HLE v.0.56 WIP 1 will work in 1964, but Azimer's HLE v.0.56 WIP 2 will generate an error.
It is also stated for many, that schibo's audio plugin is more compliant with 1964 than Jabo's Direct Sound. If you are playing a
game with Jabo's Direct Sound, and sound seems to skip or stutter, try going
into its options and checking “Sync game to audio”. But be warned, sometimes
checking this will lock up your game. Azimer's HLE v.0.56 WIP plugins also have a
similar option that you may also try: “Force Old Audio Sync”.
Input Information:
Some games to seem to favor certain input
plugins, while others hate them. In this case, switch it! Mario Party 3 didn't
let me use my one of my controllers using N-Rage's Direct-Input8, but Jabo's DirectInput worked
just fine, while it was vice-versa for Banjo Kazooie.
*Tip: Keep in mind that not
only my configurations stated work. My list is compiled of “known working”
configurations. So, this is not saying that an alternative emulator/plugin
combo will not work. Alternative configurations to the ones I have listed may
even run better than mine. *
"Known Issues" and Special Fixes
My
main focus of the known issues, is to point out the obvious errors, or ones
that can be easily corrected with a quick fix. Some games do not have fixes,
and are complete unplayable. I may not have every known issue to every game, and
some may have been intentionally left out. The known issues are for the
configuration that I have listed only, and may not exist with an alternative
configuration. Take note, some known issues are plugin/emulator specific.
Known
Issues:
None - Game runs perfect,
and should play to the end. May have small errors not worth stating.
(Minor) - Very slight errors,
usually shouldn't be regarded. Minor errors will not affect gameplay.
(Moderate) - Very noticable
errors, may or may not affect gameplay.
(Major) - Game suffers from
very noticable errors that will affect gameplay, but should still play.
(Severe) - Serious errors that
make the game unplayable, or unbearable to play.
The Games
And
finally, here are the games. Remember, use my configurations for the best
possible results. These are the actual N64 ROMs, and at the bottom are the
homebrewn demos. ROMs have versions based on their country. Take note in the
different ROM versions. There are:
(E) - European Rom
(U) -
(I) - Italian Rom
(J) - Japanese Rom
(S) - Spanish Rom
(F) - French Rom
(G) - German Rom
(A) - PAL Rom
*Note: Make sure
you are setting up the correct version of your
*Note: Also take
notice, that in the “SUGGESTED RSP PLUGUIN” section, some games have dashed
lines (- - - - - - - - - - - -) as a setting. This means
that the emulator used is either Project64 or Nemu64 (which in both, the RSP cannot be changed). Or it’s 1964 (which means you don’t
select an RSP Plugin at all, so just leave it blank).
*Tip: Hold “Ctrl” and use the mouse scroller to change text size
if the fonts are too big or too small. If your mouse does not have a scroller,
Firefox users may also use “Ctrl” and the “+” and “-“ keys to change the size
of the fonts; Internet Explorer users must go to View, Text Size, and choose
the desired size.
